Away from the hustle and bustle of the town, we are situated in the quaint village of Shey - the ancient capital of Ladakh. Almost a century-old, we have converted our ancestral home into a heritage homestay so as to keep alive our beautiful memories. It is built in traditional style, using locally-procured materials and has witnessed and experienced the winds of change, while keeping intact its old world charm.
With just as few as six rooms converted into bedrooms (one with attached bath and 5 with shared bathroom), our property is surrounded by lush poplar and willow trees and each room offers views of barley and alfa-alfa fields and snowcapped mountains.
Wake up to the melodious chirps of birds and step out to feel and inhale the crisp mountain air. A safe and beautiful trail nearby allows you to embark on a walk to one of the offshoots of the Indus river. Shey is also home to a rich avifauna and the nearby marshes are popular for bird watching. For those interested in cycling, the Shey Palace is not too far away. A scenic village trail also takes you to the famed Thiksey monastery.
Our traditional kitchen – where time has stood still - serves as the dining room where you will savour meals prepared by fresh home-grown veggies from my mother’s kitchen garden. And of course, we will be serving local cuisine on request.
Book a stay with us and take back the experience of living in a Ladakhi village set up.
